Card renewal

IMPHAL, Sept 29: All unorganized workers below the poverty line who have already been enrolled as beneficiaries under Rashtriya Swastha Bima Yojana and issued smart cards are informed to renew their cards. New enrolment of beneficiaries will also be done. The first phase of renewal will commence from September 30 at Sawombung block in Imphal East district, stated a release of labour department.

Court of Inquiry begins

IMPHAL, Sept 29: The Army Court of Inquiry against two officers of 43 Assam Rifles for their alleged role in the assault and molest of women protestors of Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee has begun at the headquarters of IGAR (South), Mantripukhri today. However, the inquiry has been postponed to October 3 due to absence of the complainants which included the president and general secretary of SHDDC and the chairperson and secretary of Sadar Hills Women Union.

It may be mentioned that the inquiry has been set up as per the complaints submitted to IGAR (South) by SHDDC and SHWU against two officers of 43 Assam Rifles, namely Major Ashish Dubey and Major Bhavish who had allegedly assaulted and molested women protestors of SHDDC at Gamgiphai near Motbung on August 31, 2011.

MCDA brings agreement

IMPHAL, Sept 29: Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) has brought an agreement with the pharmaceutical companies regarding the supply of medicines to the state.

A release of MCDA mentioned that the agreement was brought after having talks with the representatives of the companies at Hyderabad. The companies have agreed to supply the medicines on a three-month trial basis until the state government gives adequate compensations for the trucks and medicines which were burned down at Nungkao along NH-37 on September 16.

BJP national meet

Uchiwa arson

IMPHAL, September 29:Some unidentified suspected to be armed miscreants burned down a roller vehicle at Uchiwa Wangma Litan Makhong under Mayang Imphal Police last night.

According to an official source, the vehicle was used for the construction of inter village road from Khellakhong to Sekmaijin and the incident occurred while the said roller was parked last night at the residential compound of one MV Abdul Salam of Uchiwa Wangma Litan Makhong, in this connection Mayang Imphal police has registered a case, the source added.

AMSU perturbed by artificial scarcity

IMPHAL, Sept 29: All Manipur Students’ Union has decried the government inaction to control the prices and ensure continued availability of essential commodities in the wake of economic blockades imposed on the national highways.

A release of AMSU mentioned that the state government is trying to extract money from the common people in collusion with the traders by fixing the prices of essential commodities highly.

The AMSU has asked the government why it fixes the price of potato at Rs. 19 per kg when it is able to sell Rs. 15 per kg in the mobile market.

The state government should take up a long-term policy to deal with the problem of artificial scarcity of essential commodities and subsequent price hike, it added.
