IMPHAL, Oct 3: The proscribed Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) has shown its revolutionary salute to Lt Renu alias Nandeibam Premchand alias Sanayanba, s/o Brojen and Nungsiton of Khurai Nandeibam Leikai who passed away on September 30 due to an illness.

A statement of the outfit issued by publicity secretary T Leishemba mentioned that Lt Renu joined the outfit with the motive of liberating the state from the clutches of Indian colonialists. False alarm

IMPHAL, Oct 3: Locals of Kwakeithel bazaar and others were left panic-stricken as an unidentified scooter parked in the vicinity remained unclaimed from early this morning till late in the afternoon.

Fearing that there could be a bomb, the locals informed the police around 3:30 pm, stated sources.

On receiving reports of the incident, a team of Singjamei police led by its OC rushed to the spot. Later a bomb squad was also called in, however no explosive material or any such was found from the scooter.

The registration number of the scooter has been established as MN1E-4563 registered in the name of Elangbam Gambhini Devi w/o E. Rajen of Sagolband Sayang road.

The vehicle was later picked up by the police for further verification.

Involvement denied

IMPHAL, Oct 3: Aspiring candidate of Wangkhei Kendra Okram Henry has stated that his security personnel were not in any way involved in the incident, when minister Y Irabot’s son was allegedly harassed by security personnel on October 1 at Mantripukhri.

He has stated that it was reported in some local dailies that minister Irabot had alleged the involvement of his security escorts in the incident. He has denied the allegation.

Festival of narrative arts kicks off

IMPHAL, Oct 3: A seven-day festival of narrative art forms of Manipur organized by Institute of Performing Arts, Imphal under the sponsorship of ministry of Culture, government of India and Manipur Ensemble was inaugurated today at Manipuri Ensemble Complex located at Langthabal Kunja Makha Leikai, Imphal west.

The inaugural function was graced by senior opposition MLA O Joy and deputy director of art and culture, W Mera as the chief guest and president respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, MLA O Joy stated that the people should preserve and promote their own art and culture as they exhibit their identity to others.

He maintained that the Manipuris have the richest art and culture in the world. The festival as such is the driving force for the upliftment of various art forms in the state.

Langthabal is one of the historically important places linked to the rich art and culture of the state, O Joy noted.

COTA appeal
