AITSA opens state unit

Imphal, October 5: The All India Tribal Students’ Association (AITSA), Delhi has opened its state unit on Tuesday in a meeting held at the Tribal research Institute Chingmeirong, Imphal with Gondaimei Chaningai, Vice President of AITSA on the chair. Gonmei Janglung was elected as President of the new students’ body. Piangoumang Thomte and Chunsha Clement Ngoruw were elected as its Vice Presidents while Ng Thermi was elected as General Secretary.

Imphal, Oct 5: HERICOUN while greeting the people of the state on the occasion of Mera Hou Chongba which will continue for two days from October 11 to 12, has appealed to the people of the state to attend the occasion and extend cooperation to the organizers for a peaceful Manipur.

Sainik School Imphal makes history by wining Rakhsa Mantri Trophy

Imphal, October 5: Sainik School Imphal has won the prestigious Raksha Mantri Trophy for the year 2010-2011 for sending the largest percentage of cadets amongst all Sainik Schools to the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). This was announced in the Sainik Schools Principals Conference which concluded today at Sainik School Nagrota in Jammu & Kashmir. Out of the 42 cadets who appeared for the 126th Course of NDA, 25 cadets were declared pass in the UPSC Written Test and a total of 13 cadets joined NDA and INA after qualifying the rigorous SSB interviews. The RM’s Trophy was presented by the Hon’ble RRM, MM Pallam Raju, to Col (Dr) Ravi Kumar, Principal of Sainik School. He expressed his gratitude to all parents of the selected cadets, the staff and the state government for their wholehearted support in achieving this outstanding result.

42nd Short play competition to be held

Imphal, Octotober 05: The 42nd short play competition to be organized by the Theater Centre will be held from the October 10 to 17 at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane. Addressing media persons at a press conference at its office in Paona bazaar, Wareppam Naba, President of Theater Mirror said that the competition will be organized under the sponsorship of the State Kala Academy. Altogether 16 Theatre groups will participate in the said competition. He further went on to say that the prizes will be distributed on the October 21, on the occasion of Manipur Theater Day.

Ward members to boycott MLAs and Ministers of SPF

Imphal, October 5: While demanding their rightful power from the state government, ward members of Nagar panchayats and Municipal councils under the aegis of All Manipur Nagar Panchayats and Municipal Councils Elected Ward Development Committee Members’ Welfares Association, Manipur will be boycotting all the MLAs and Ministers of the SPF government from October 9 onwards if their demand is not met at the earliest. In a press release, the association stated that the government is not giving their power even though they were elected as ward development committee on January 7 this year.

Gorkha Rifles celebrate Vijaya Dashami

Imphal, October 5: The 5/9 Gorkha Rifles of Loktak Brigade under Red Shield Division organised the traditional festival of Gorkhas, Vijaya Dashami with great pomp and show at their campus. The event was graced by Brigadier Laove Verma, SM, Commander Loktak Brigade and MLA Prithviraj as presidium members. The local populace of Moirang, Songdo and Kwakta village attended the cultural programme organised by the Phillora Battalion and local artists.  The soldiers of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles performed their traditional Highland Dance and Jhamre with a Band display by the Phillora Band as the centre of attraction. The function was followed by a grand feast which was attended by all.

AR recovers banned wildlife products, drugs

Imphal, Oct 5: Troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) in an operation in general area of Khudengthabi apprehended a drug peddler along with drugs and banned wildlife products on Tuesday. He was identified as Zothasang (25) son of late Hemson of Chamol, Tegnoupal. 2,46,000 pieces (75 kgs) of Mucoson tablets, 21 kgs of Pangolin shells and one Mobile phone were recovered from him.
In another incident, the Unit launched an operation in general area of Kondong, Leirambi temple of Chandel district and apprehended one another drugs peddler on the same day. He was identified as Lunkholet (30) son of late Letpao of New Lamka, Churachandpur. One bottle (approximate 15 gms)  of Heroin (No. 4), one Mobile phone and Rs.750 in Indian currency were recovered from him. The apprehended persons along with the recoveries were handed over to Narcotic Control Bureau and Wild Life Department, Imphal.

IMPHAL, Oct 5: The Theatre centre Manipur and Manipur State Kala Academy, is jointly organizing the “42nd Short Play Competition for Creative Director 2011” from October 10 to October 17 at MDU, Hall at Yaiskul, Imphal.
