CM lauds Territorial Army

Imphal, October 7: The State Home Department in a state function today held at the Banquet Hall of 1st Manipur Rifles observed the 62nd Raising Day of the Territorial Army which was instituted by the first Governor General of Free India C Rajagopalchari in 1949.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi said that the Territorial Army has been rendering its valuable service in defending the state. The 165th Infantry Battalion which was instituted in 2007 is a unit formed in the soil of Manipur with its youth. The unit is helping in employment of many literate youths of the state.

CO, 165th Battalion, Territorial Army Colonel George Jacob and GOC, Red Shield Division Major General Binoy Poonen also attended the function. Chief Minister O Ibobi was honoured by the Territorial Army by presenting a shawl and a memento as part of the function.

CrPC 144 imposed in Imphal West

Imphal, Oct 7: Owing to the likelihood of serious breach of peace, disturbance to public property and grave danger to human life and property, the District Megistrate, Imphal West has issued an order imposing CrPC 144 in all the areas situated under the Imphal West district. The order further prohibits assemble of 5 or more persons, carrying of sticks, stones, firearms and weapons of any other description or objects which can be used as offensive weapons within the Imphal district from 6pm of today until further orders. Permissions for procession of marriage, funeral, and religious purposes etc should be obtained, the order said.

SHDDC says no to Inquiry sittings in Imphal

Imphal, October 07: While expressing gratitude to the HQ IGAR (South) for instituting Army Court of Inquiry against 43 Assam Rifles over their atrocities and inhuman activities against women agitators, the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) has appealed to the IGAR (South) to conduct the sitting of the Court of Inquiry either at Kangpokpi or Gamnom-Saparmeina Police Stations.

SHDDC in an application to the IGAR (S) stated that they are not in a position to attend the inquiry at the HQ IGAR (S), Imphal since there is threat perception to their lives from different sides including the state government. It also appealed to conduct all future correspondence through the Additional District Magistrate, Kangpokpi.

Maoist Communist Party calls general strike

Imphal, Oct 7: The proscribed UG group Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has called for a 12 hour general strike in whole state on October 15 from 5 am to 5 pm commemorating the force merge of Manipur to the Indian Union in 1949 by signing the merger agreement, stated a press release of the organisation. It also appealed to the people of the state to light candles at their gate on the night of October 15 to mark the day. It further appealed to the people to support the party for a sovereign Manipur.
