Sadar Hills students come out in support of district demand

IMPHAL, October 11: Several hundred school students in Sadar Hills area today took out a procession in Saparmeina area chanting slogans demanding the inauguration of Sadar Hills as a full fledged district.

The procession endorsing the demand of the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee was organized by the Thadou Students’ Association, (TSA) Sadar Hills.

It was started from SL Memorial Higher Secondary School around 12 noon and proceeded toward the Saitu Gamphajol SDO office situated at Gamnom Saparmeina where a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur was submitted through the sub divisional officer, Gourochandra Singh by the TSA on behalf of the entire students community in Sadar Hills.

The students march through the scorching sun chanting slogans “We want Sadar Hills district” “inaugurate Sadar Hills district” through out the procession besides holding placards which reads “Don’t deny citizens rights”, “Sadar Hills for Manipur Integrity”, “Sadar Hills district for all community”, “don’t communalized Sadar Hills”, “Mr. Ibobi Don’t you hear us” etc.

Students of altogether 17 schools participated in the procession. They left the SDO office and concluded with their procession at the same venue where it set out.

The TSA in the memorandum mentioned that the ongoing economic blockade on the two National Highways 2 and 37 has touched the 72 day record and the general strike which began from the August 2 till September 3 has caused deep suffering not only to the general public, but even to the student’s community of Sadar Hills.

It said the SHDDC has been spearheading the demand to convert Sadar Hills into a full fledged district which has been in pending since 1992. The unresolved issue if let to persist unattended would invite more sufferings and even communal tension, it claimed and thus urged the CM to upgrade Sadar Hills into a full fledged district immediately and unconditionally.
