Imphal, October 15 : Troops of 5/9 Gorkha Rifles under Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division, in a search operation in Lajanjphai (Tuibong) on October 15 apprehended one arms dealer, along with one 9mm Pistol, one magazine, two live rounds of 9mm, 80 live rounds of 7.62mm, 200gm of gun powder and one weapon welding machine. He was identified as Henkholun Haokip (52) son of Thangjalet Haokip of Lajanjphai (Tuibong), CCpur, according to a press release of PIB (Defence Wing).
He has admitted that he was involved in manufacturing and trafficking of arms in Churachandpur. He was also in possession of ample raw material and manufacturing parts of weapon mechanism. He has been handed over to the Imphal West Police Station, it added.
Meanwhile, the 6/8 Gorkha Rifles of Loktak Brigade under the aegis of Red Shield Division treated a snake bite victim at the Unit Medical Inspection Room on October 14. The victim, a lady, was brought to the unit location in a state of shock at around 8 pm. She was immediately treated by the Army doctor and was later referred to the Civil Hospital stated a press release of the unit.
The same unit today carried out a medical inspection camp and provided material assistance to 12 junior boxers of Ningthoukhong. The young pugilists have been set to take part in a Kick Boxing tournament in Bangalore it added.
