IMPHAL, Oct 16: Led by five times world champion MC Mary Kom, Manipur clinched two gold medals, one silver and a bronze in the 12th Senior Women national Boxing Championship. With a competition total of 22 points Manipur secured the overall runners-up title as Haryana eves claimed the champions crown with 34 points.
The last day of the championship saw Mary Kom cruise to a 13-9 victory over Pinky Jingra of Haryana to wrest the 51 kg title with Sh Sarjubala bagging the other yellow metal with a hard-fought 36-24 win over Krishna Thapa of Madhya Pradesh in the 48 kg showdown.
Mary Kom was also adjudged the championshp’s best boxer with the best loser honour going to Pinky Jingra.
E Memthoi, the other finalist from Manipur, stumbled at the last hurdle following a 17-9 defeat to Jenny of Mizoram in the 69 kg class final.
L Jamuna Chanu was the bronze medal winner having reached the semifinals in the 57 kg category.
