IMPHAL, Oct 20: A two-day workshop cum training programme on ‘Sericulture Development’ organised by Imphal sub-station of North East Institute of Science and Technology Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has commenced from today at the Sub-station’s Lamphelpat premises.
Health Minister L Jayantakumar and CSIR-NEIST (Jorhat) Director Dr PG Rao were respectively the chief guest and president of the inaugural programme which was also attended by Director (Sericulture) G Simte, CSIR-IICT (Hyderabad) Chief Scientist Dr USN Murty, CSIR-IICT (Jorhat) Chief Scientist Dr BG Unni and RTRS (Mantripukhri) Scientist D Dr K Chaoba Singh as the guests of honour.
Resource persons noting quality muga products by the local weavers stres-sed on the need for relying on technology to enhance production. They emphasi-sed on the local weavers’ participation at training programmes regularly for an update on technological advancement and scientific method of rearing and preservation of cocoons.
