Imphal, October 26: While greeting the people of the state on the occasion of Ningol Chakkouba, the proscribed UG group RPF expressed serious concern on the changing scenario of the festival.

In a press statement, Secretary Publicity, T Leishemba stated that the Ningol Chakkouba is a festival of the bond of love between brothers and sisters who got married and emerged herself in another family. In olden days, brothers used to present gifts prepared or made in home like Phanek, Innaphi and other items.

However the scene has changed in the past decades with women demanding valuable gifts from their maternal home. On the other hand many brothers are saddened and overburdened by the unreasonable demand of their sisters.

While expressing serious concern over the changing scenario, RPF urged the people of the state to refrain from demanding costly gifts and avoid this race for valuable gifts which will leave the state in misery since almost all the amount spent during the festival in buying gifts will go away to other states. Evironment clean for a healthy society and a strong nation. As many as 24 students from six schools in Tamenglong participated in the essay competition. Result would be declared on the closing ceremony of the month long celebration of Swacchata Utsav/ festival of cleanliness which is scheduled to hold on 4th November 2011.
