Grenade attack

IMPHAL, October 7: Unidentified armed miscreants today lobbed a hand grenade at the residence of Md Kadir of Yairipok Keikru Makha Leikai, who is an aspiring candidate of Wangkhem a/c.

The miscreants lobbed the grenade at around 9:30pm yesterday and fell on the courtyard of the aspiring candidate, however it fail to explode.

Meanwhile, family sources maintained that the grenade remained in their courtyard as the police were unable to retrieve the bomb due to the darkness and retrieved it this early morning.

Family sources further stated Md Kadir used to be a cashier of the Ukhrul post of the 6 MR, however he took voluntary retirement from service and is aspiring to stand in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.

All India Youth Federation

IMPHAL October 7: The All India Youth Federation, Bishnupur District Council has stated that it will go ahead with its agitation to stop commercial vehicles plying along the Tiddim road in case of failure of the authority concerned to look into their demands.

A release by Kh Ramananda, publicity secretary of the federation stated that the body has appealed to the state government to check the fares imposed by the passenger vehicles which has been received by the government and a meeting with the Bishnupur district transport officer has been scheduled on October 10 along with representatives of the federation.

In this regard the AISF, Bishnupur has revoked its stance to begin the agitation scheduled to begin on October 10, however, if there are no tangible results of the meeting, the agitation to stop passenger vehicles will start from October 11 onwards, it said.

Tourism team at Srinagar

IMPHAL October 7: A Manipur Tourism team left the state to participate in the Indian Travel Mart, scheduled to begin at Srinagar from tomorrow onwards. The team will promote and publicize the upcoming Manipur Sangai festival at the said venue, a press release by deputy director of tourism department, K Shyamsunder said.

It has mentioned that the Indian Travel Mart (ITM) provides a single platform for international and national organizations and aims to boost tourism, develop business contacts and joint ventures.

The tourism team, led by the deputy director tourism will seek to attract both domestic and foreign tourists into the state and publicize what the Manipur Sangai Festival has to offer in terms of arts and culture, handloom and handicrafts, fine arts, indigenous cuisines, traditional dances and music, indigenous games and sports, the release added.

IMPHAL, Oct 7: AMOFA defeated KSC by 2-1 in today’s match of 16th M Chittamani Singh Memorial Winners’ Cup Football Tournament held at Bishnupur Mini Stadium.

Minthing scored the two goals for AMOFA in 55th and 62nd minutes of the play while SK Bungthot scored the lone goal for KSC in 59th minute.

In the match held at Thomas Ground Kangpokpi, JSAC defeated RYDO by 2-0. The goals for JSAC were scored by Lalmo and Hekhup in 27th and 32nd minutes of the play.

In the match held at Churachandpur Public Ground, NYC defeated UBSA by 3-0. The goals for NYC were scored by Lalhmingmei (two goals) and Henry (one goal).
